Just read “The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store” by James McBride. McBride succeeds in melding two cultures, Jewish and African American, in the small town, small success neighborhood of 1972 Chicken Hill, located in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Life is complicated and love-affirming and these characters live on the page for the reader. Go there! I did and throughly enjoyed the journey.

December 2023

We read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts in our book club this year. It’s a rollicking story by an Australian convicted criminal that is incredibly well written. It’s graphic and gritty, but the verbiage is quite delightful.

October 2023

I just finished “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann. This non-fiction tale is really well told and it is a part of our history that all Americans should be aware of. It documents the saga of the Osage Indians of Oklahoma who were targeted for their wealth from the oil which lay beneath their lands.
